staff and patients in GP practices

Being an Active Practice can have a huge impact on the health and wellbeing of everyone connected to your practice. Being active is proven to reduce the risk of premature death, reduce social isolation and improve immunity to flu and COVID-19, among other illnesses. Even modest changes to activity levels can play an important role in improving mental and physical wellbeing for all of us (find out more about the benefits of being active here ).

The Active Practice initiative is a fun, easy way to make some simple but impactful changes in your workplace that will demonstrate to your patients and staff that you mean it when you say that movement is the best medicine. We have a variety of resources, information and inspiration available to support you and your practice on the Active Practice journey!

ACTIVE PRACTICES IN SURREY

ACTIVE PRACTICES IN SURREY

Haslemere Health Centre

Haslemere Health Centre recently became a registered Active Practice with the RCGP!

With support from Active Surrey, the practice has been able to create a standing area in their waiting room for patients, with lots of information about the benefits of moving more, as well as local signposting to activities in the area.

Staff have also been able to attend Active Surrey's physical activity awareness training, helping to increase knowledge of the benefits of physical activity and confidence in having conversations about being more active. Staff have also held yoga sessions in their waiting room, as well as taking part in a PCN wide step challenge – aiming to step the equivalent distance of travelling around the coast of the UK!

Coco PCN Active Practice

COCO PCN

COCO PCN have taken some wonderful steps in promoting physical activity among both patients and staff across their surgeries!

Staff attended Active Surrey’s physical activity awareness training, helping to highlight the positive role of physical activity for themselves and the people that they work with. To demonstrate this, 55 staff members committed to a virtual walking challenge, working together in teams of 5 to walk the equivalent distance of London to Venice!

In addition to this, Active Surrey have been able to provide step trackers for those attending local health walking groups, as well as subsidising exercise referral memberships for those who are experiencing increased barriers'
